Dr. Joseph J. D'Onofrio died at age 77 on January 17 in Saddle River. He died from a 2-year-long battle with lung cancer.
He attended St. Raymond's Parochial School in East Rockaway. He graduated from Notre Dame in the class of 1963, where he was part of the marching band. He then got his doctorate from Columbia University School of Dentistry.
In 1969, he opened his dental practice in Oak Ridge, New Jersey. His patients referred to him as Dr. Pain.
He married Joanne Marie Louden on July 30, 1966. They had two sons, Joseph John Jr. and Andrew Luke. In 1972, he had a daughter named Jennifer Ann.
He loved life, and golf, boating, water skiing, and snow skiing. He was the lead-off batter for the Downing Furniture Softball team.
"Chiropractors came from all over the world to observe his model practice. He was a mentor to many and a sought-after speaker for most of his career," said northjersey.com.
He helped provide others with dental care while being a light of optimism and cheer. His patients always left his office with a smile on their faces.
Even after being diagnosed with cancer, he never missed a day of work. He also never missed a day at the gym and enjoys a glass of wine with family and friends.
Dr. D'Onofrio impacted many lives with his lively attitude and love, and commitment to his work. He also has always been there for his family and friends, and continues to impact many today, even after his passing.
There will be a viewing at Our Lady of the Lake catholic church on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020. All services are hosted by the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St, Sparta, NJ 07871.
